"I have had the honor of being acquainted with Paul Babeu for several years as a fellow employee of the Chandler Police Department. My acquaintence began when I was tasked with the duties of Extra Coordinator for the Patrol Officers from 2003 - 2005, I often telephoned Paul to assist in filling jobs for city contractors and in doing so, spoke several times to his family members. The impression that his father left with me was one of goodness, and that he was a very caring and loving and genuine man and father. Family is very important to me in my life, and I always believed that Paul must have been raised the right way, which belief has been confirmed several times in the years that I have associated with Paul and found him to also be as caring and genuine as his father. I'm so glad that Pinal County has elected Paul Babeu as Sheriff. He will earn your votes during his service, no doubt."

"Paul, I have read as much as I can about your qualifications, and about your platform. My wife and I support you 100%. I have had negative feelings about the use of regular radar use for years and have felt that the use of photo radar removes a fundamental, constitutional, right to face an accuser in court. Thank you for passing up a financial windfall for what is actually good and right! Good luck this Tuesday!"

"Election time is almost upon us once again and it is time to make decisions which could affect our future. There is one race however, in which many people will vote for a candidate who does not directly represent them. That race is for the office of Sheriff of Pinal County. While many municipalities in Pinal County have huge voting blocks, they actually have little or no contact with the Sheriff’s Office. For example, Casa Grande is serviced by Casa Grande Police Department; Apache Junction is serviced by Apache Junction Police Department etc.
We in law enforcement have a unique insight into this race due to the fact that we have constant interaction with the deputies from P.C.S.O. Whatever happens at P.C.S.O. either good or bad, we in law enforcement are well aware of the situation. Law Enforcement in Pinal County and around the state has overwhelmingly endorsed one candidate for the office of the Sheriff of Pinal County. We feel that Paul Babeu possesses the leadership ability to better lead P.C.S.O. and provide improved service to rapidly growing unincorporated areas.
Paul is endorsed by the Maricopa Police Department, Arizona Highway Patrol Officers, Arizona Police Association, Arizona Fraternal Order of Police, Apache Junction and Florence F.O.P., U.S. Border Patrol agents in Arizona and the firefighters of Apache Junction, Florence and Gila River . In addition, the Pinal County Deputies Association members recently voted 60 to 14 to endorse Paul Babeu for Sheriff. There is a reason Paul is being endorsed by so many in the law enforcement fire services field. Put simply, he is the candidate that other public servants feel can best lead the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. Please join me and my fellow public servants and vote Paul Babeu for Sheriff of Pinal County."

Albert Phelps, Deputy and Supervisor, Pinal County
"I worked for former Sheriff Roger Vanderpool and I agree with him that the most important endorsement a Sheriff can receive is from the Deputies themselves. The overwhelming majority of Pinal Deputies are supporting Paul Babeu for Sheriff. The rank and file Deputies voted 60 to 14, or more than 4 to 1 to back Paul Babeu for Sheriff.
Paul's detractors say he's only a Patrol Officer in Chandler, as if that is somehow a bad thing. Paul is however much more than one of Chandler's finest. Paul is a decorated Police Officer, having been awarded two life saving medals. Paul graduated as the #1 Police Officer from the Academy and more importantly he was voted the most exemplary Officer by his peers.
We lack some of the basic training and equipment that is standard in every other law enforcement agency in America. We need fairness of internal discipline and promotions. Paul continues to speak about improving the working atmosphere, which will result in improved service to our citizens we are sworn to serve.
Your Deputies need your help to make these changes. Help us make our agency better, so we can best serve you. Join us in electing Paul Babeu as our Sheriff."

Janice Cunningham, Gold Canyon
"Why am I voting for Paul Babeu?
Sheriff Vasquez is very knowledgeable when it comes to police procedures; however the administration of this volunteer program has been extremely frustrating. Issues concerning communications, training and personnel have been brought to the Sheriff several times. Promises have been made to improve situations, provide training and resolve personnel issues. Promises are only as good as the follow up. When it takes a year to provide the minimum training for our volunteers they loose interest and drop out of the program. Things are getting minimally better; it only took 7 months to get the last group of volunteers scheduled for their second session of training. I had personally requested a meeting with the Sheriff on August 18, 2008. I am still waiting for a response to that request.
Sheriff Vasquez promotes the COP program very well in public but neither he nor his office has been providing the support our program needs to be successful. We are sorely missing leadership.

Paul Babeu has an extensive background in administration and is a nationally recognized leader. He understands what it takes to encourage people to excel in their performances. He understands that volunteer units need the support of administrators to free up the volunteers time to be the “eyes and ears of the community”. This is why I have decided to support Paul Babeu."

"The indiscretions of Sheriff Vasquez are difficult to overlook. Sheriff Vasquez does a great job showing up at community meetings and events but that does not protect the safety and property of our citizens. We need a Sheriff who understands and will implement new procedures, techniques, and technologies to make our limited resources more effective. We need a proven administrative leader.

Paul Babeu is an experienced Military Commander! He is a proven leader and administrator. We have been reading a lot of misleading information regarding Paul Babeu and his photo radar ticket. Let’s compare that to the plagiarism, loss of DUI equipment certification records, a detention officer arrested for stealing funds from inmates and his wife serving as one of two finance administrators at the PCSO. The choice is clear – Paul Babeu for Sheriff! "

"My husband, Ted, and I are supporting Paul Babeu as our next sheriff. Ted and I have lived here 17 years and we have never seen Chris Vasquez in our community during his three years as sheriff and his five prior years with the department. We are not well served by the current sheriff and we are tired of hearing excuses.

Paul has shown our community respect by listening to our needs and concerns. Paul Babeu will be a breath of fresh air and energy. He is a decorated police officer, experienced military commander and has experience and training in government budgeting. Paul served as a council member and was an elected county supervisor for four years. Paul Babeu has far more experience in leadership, project planning and budgets than Chris Vasquez."

"This is one for the books... I have been a friend and colleague of Sheriff Chris Vasquez since we were classmates in the Police Academy at CAC in 1976. After his retirement we found ourselves classmates again at the American Instutute in Phoenix where we earned degrees as Paralegals in 1997. It is because of my long friendship and my knowledge of Chris that I found myself in a dilemma.
I witnessed the morale of the Pinal County Sheriff's Department reach an all-time new low. The Deputies sincerely want to do a great job for the citizens of Pinal County but seem to be hampered at every turn. Poor management and a lack of training and equiptment is evident in almost every division. I was fortunate to meet Paul Babeu thru a mutual friend of ours. The word Ethical came to mind immediately. He is decent, good, honorable, just, moral, and righteous. Paul has a strong since of duty, honor and has proven his leadership ability.
Please join me, an Arizona Democrat, in electing Paul Babeu, Sheriff of Pinal County, Arizona."

The citizens of Pinal County and the employees of the Pinal County Sheriff's Department would be well served by electing Paul Babeu Sheriff of Pinal County."

"I am a resident of Arizona City and have one of your signs in my front yard. You definitely have my vote !
I had a hit and run incident that has been improperly handled by the Pinal County Sheriff's office. I contacted Chris Vasquez and am extremely dissatisfied with his attitude and follow up on this incident and still is not resolved 4 months later. He advised me that the deputy handling the case handled it properly. My question is ``why can't a deputy issue a simple citation instead of referring it to the county attorney's office for a charging review`` He advised me that is policy and that I should not be critical.
I have been involved in law enforcement over 40 years including being married to a retired LAPD Motor Sgt (25 of his 30 years) and a brother-in-law LAPD Accident Investigator (retired). Have plenty of friends on LA County Sheriff's Dept and LAPD and none of them have ever heard of a simple traffic citation being referred to a county attorney for review. Maybe Arizona laws are different but as an Arizona City resident I have concerns that the deputies do not have any authority to enforce the law."

We all watched Paul venture his way through politics here in Berkshire County and were by his side during his bid for Mayor of North Adams.

I felt a connection to his passion for our county, our youth and what we need to do, as a community, to move Pinal County forward. "Having worked for another Arizona Sheriff, I know what the job entails. Seeing the current situation of PCSO, I know that he is in for a world of heartache, and that’s after he wins the election! But I am also certain that no one else is better equipped to be Pinal’s Sheriff, and be successful at it.
I have known Paul for a little more than five years, and I could go on and on about the characteristics and skills he has that make him the best man for the job. But no one wants to read all that. So I’ll sum it up. I have said this before, and I would say it over and over again: I would trust Paul with my life, and my last dollar. Best of luck, Paul. See you November 4th."

"I am proudly endorsing Paul Babeu for Pinal County Sheriff. Pinal County is America’s fastest growing county and although we currently have capable leadership in our Sheriff’s Office, I believe that Paul Babeu is the best choice to lead the PCSO into the future. Paul’s background of leadership, management, and education, combined with his well-articulated vision for the future, lead me to this endorsement. Pinal County is changing. We are on the cusp of a population/economic surge that has never been seen in the history of our state. Although we will develop responsibly and with controlled purpose, our law enforcement must keep pace. I’m confident that under Paul’s leadership, the PCSO will stay ahead of the community’s needs as we move into the future and take our rightful place as one of America’s finest counties. Paul Babeu is the future of our PCSO. He represents bold, competent, visionary leadership.
Pinal County currently has an amazing group of employees and volunteers who represent the finest qualities of law enforcement and community service. "I have personally witnessed the "good ole boy" network currently in place at the Pinal County Sheriff's Department. I was the Security Operations Division Commander from April, 2007 to August, 2007, when I was fired by Sheriff Vasquez. I upset the "apple cart" by making "vote getters" for Sheriff Vasquez actually work in their job capacities. This was unheard of in Pinal County. I implemented a program of professionalism within Detentions, which I am sure has lapsed back into complacency. This complacency can be seen in the recent suicides (3!!) at the PCADC. The staff at the Detention Center is first rate but is not being given any managerial direction, especially by Sheriff Vasquez.
I support Paul Babeu, from Colorado, where I moved to get the stench of "good ole boy" politics out of my nostrils. Paul, I am behind you 100%. Just remember your Detention staff. After the commisioned side arrests, Detention has to handle them for an average of 5-6 days.

"I first met Mr. Babeu while serving in Iraq in austere conditions. We were fellow officers and citizen-soldiers just doing our duty. I am not familiar with his duties as a police officer nor am I affiliated with any political party. I am also not affiliated with any local politics of Pinal County. I saw Iraq bring out the best and worst in human character. My unit had complicated leadership and morale issues that were affecting our ability to conduct its mission.

Mr. Babeu was assigned to investigate our situation and provide clarity to his senior leaders. After interviewing Officers and enlisted alike he was able to narrow these issues down straightaway with resounding simplicity. Mr. Babeu is gifted with interpersonal communication skills on several levels. I saw him as a man with personal courage to do and say things that weren’t popular but were true and needed to be said. Mr. Babeu did not stand down when presented with moral hurdles. He represented at times the most basic human needs of our soldiers with conviction and did it in a fashion that would make you proud of your Country.

I served with some that were very adept and cunning with their words but whos actions spelled out quite a different story. Mr. Babeu was quite different. He said what he meant, and he meant what he said. He was able to do this because of his personal integrity and courage. Mr. Babeu never played politics or status. Because of his rank, Mr. Babeu could have had a very simple, easy field grade life in Iraq. He did not do that. Mr. Babeu spent every day trying to make life better for others in uniform. Our units health and morale was restored eventually. What I witnessed in Iraq for a full year was the real deal.

If you are having problems in Pinal County with politics or failed leadership, Mr. Babeu will bring his strong sense of character and “do as I do leadership” and put these issues to rest. If he promises computers in squad cars and CPR training you will get them. If he promises better service and one of his men gives something less, they will hear about it until its done correctly. I stand nothing to gain by stating this as I am a citizen of California. If Paul Babeu wants to run for Sheriff of Pinal County consider yourselves lucky as you will have a leader who take your issues and not stop running and talking about them until they change. Good Luck Pinal County, my bet is on Paul!"

As a residence here in Pinal County since birth 18 years ago I have really noticed that this county needs change, thus we must have a dedicated and strong willed leader. The problems that we face here in Pinal County has lead me to want to be Sheriff when I retire from my career in law enforcement, which is a long time from now, but I think Mr. Babeu would be a great role model and teacher for a young man like myself to shadow in my career in law enforcement. I was fortunate to meet Mr. Babeu from a recent visit to my police department, in favor of his respect and kindness I am in full support of Paul Babeu for Sheriff of Pinal County. On the wall of our courthouse, is a sign threatening to confiscate a firearm that is brought into the building. This is a violation of the law because, (Effective July 18, 2000, state law requires local governments to offer to check firearms if they want to prohibit them from being carried in their buildings.) Would you as a firearm owner want to lock your gun in a vehicle that has criminals watching you in the parking lot?"

I have never been so impressed by someone’s ability to communicate and ability to relate so easily to someone he doesn’t even know. What a breath of fresh air!
The more I looked this guy up, the more positive things I learned about him. It is almost hard to swallow as a long time Pinal resident to think someone can fit so snug into a position of authority. The guy has class, intelligence, honesty, dedication, morals and the ability to catapult PCSO to be a respected agency once again.

He is one of us out there responding to the calls for service, risking his life everyday to protect the rights of someone else, who else better to be a leader to all my brothers and sisters at PCSO.

Here’s a Democrat who will be voting for Paul !"

"My husband and I had the opportunity to meet Paul - quite by accident - for the very first time on Friday 6/20. We instantly recognized his leadership ability, his integrity and his commitment to serve his community. We went home that evening and researched his plan for Pinal County. We were so impressed with Paul that when we happened to cross paths again the next morning we immediately asked to assist with his campaign in any way we can (and he gave us his own campaign materials right off his truck!)
Ironically my husband and I had the opportunity to meet Sheriff Vasquez for the very first time on Sunday, 6/22; again the meeting was unplanned. While Sheriff Vasquez presented himself professionally we immediately recognized his lack of ability to express his true commitment to his community. His words were hollow and did not foster any sense of camaraderie among the crowd.
It is obvious to us that Paul Babeu is the leader we are looking for to work hand in hand with our community to make it the kind of place we want to raise our children and our grandchildren."

"I was quite disappointed to see Paul running for Sheriff in Pinal County. Not because he wouldn't be the absolute best candidate for the job, but for a more selfish reason. He has done such an amazing job as our union president and I didn't want him to leave.
I have known Paul personally and professionally for several years. During this time I have come to know Paul as a fellow police officer with a well-earned reputation as a hard worker. Paul is not a typical bureaucratic leader. Paul has, and does lead by example. He says what he means, and means what he says. One way this is clearly evident is the physical conditioning Paul keeps himself in. Although not as important as other qualifications for sheriff, the disciplined attitude towards his physical fitness represents his dedication to his role as a protector and warrior for our society. As a fellow Army veteran I know the best leaders are forged under the most stressful of conditions. Thus the best leaders typically have military foundations. If you can survive, and even thrive as Paul has, then you are more then ready for what any civilian occupation can ask of you. Finding leaders such as these, with Paul’s experience, education, integrity, honesty and passion for the job are literally a needle in a haystack. I would say to the people of Pinal county, vote for Paul as your Sheriff, leave corruption and politics as usual behind, and relish the time you have him as your law enforcement leader, for a man like this is destined to continue to rise."

I truly am concerned about my PCSO peers who are over-worked, under-staffed, under-paid and under-appreciated for the hard work they do. I truly believe that there are many excellent deputies and supervisors at PCSO who would benefit by a strong leader with a fresh perspective. It is time to turn the reigns of a good department over to a person with vision, energy and enthusiasm. "My Father was killed in the line of duty; I've lived and walked my talk.... I have a strong commitment for our Law Enforcement Officers everywhere, in every branch of service. Yeah, there are 'some bad ones' but we should never confuse those with the majority who are not.
These Officers put their lives on the line daily, FOR US! These men and women make a simple traffic stop and end up not going home to their families again; a wife, a child, a mother, a father, a cousin, a niece or nephew. Or they are sent in to the most dangerous situations, with only seconds to make a decision and end up being crucified for 'taking the wrong action' but it being the only sensible action to take under the actual circumstances.
Please join with me, let's support and protect them. Of course, we could never protect them in the way that they protect us but we can support them when injustices are done to them, or their own turn against them.
Please let's do what we can to make a ripple in the water that will bring a force to make our political leaders understand that we won't tolerate their ill political motives to effect our law enforcement officers, ANYWHERE!
Paul will work towards fair treatment and the PROTECTION of our Officers. NO MORE GOOD OLE BOY SYSTEM!"
