Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu introduces Arizona Treasurer Dean
Martin at his gubernatorial campaign announcement. January 13, 2010
While Governor Brewer was presenting her State of the State Address at the Wyndham Gardens,
Arizona State Treasurer Dean Martin was in Prescott announcing his candidacy for
Governor.
Campaigning under the slogan of "Familiar Name - New Voice", Martin made his announcement
in the former Creative Interiors shop at 120 West Gurley Street. Standing against
the background of the stripped down walls, and empty rooms, Martin noted that this
was more than another closed business, it is an example of the opportunities that
Arizona must take advantage of.
Standing with Martin were Make-A-Wish Founder and local resident Frank Shankwitz
and Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, (also the President of the Arizona Sheriff's
Association).
One item of interest was in seeing Robert Graham standing by Martin's side. Graham
had planned to run for Governor himself, but on Wednesday, he announced, on his
Twitter and Facebook page, "Today, in concert with Dean Martin announcing his Gubernatorial
candidacy, I announce my withdrawal from the race and my support for Dean Martin
as the next Governor of Arizona. It is time to clear the field and Unify the Republican
Party. I am committed to the outcome and I will help bring jobs to Arizona."
Here is the video of Martin kicking off his campaign in Prescott (4 parts), including the questions he answered at the end:
