Paul Babeu, Candidate
for Pinal County Sheriff
Chandler Mayor Boyd Dunn and Councilmembers announced today their support and confidence in Paul Babeu to serve as the next Sheriff of Pinal County. Chandler is one of the fastest growing communities in the nation and is viewed as a premier city for quality of life in education, public services and pro-business environment. Mayor Dunn and Councilmembers agree that their city’s Police Officer, Paul Babeu has what it takes to lead the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

Mayor Boyd Dunn said, “This is not an official endorsement by the city of Chandler, yet it is an important statement of personal and political support of Paul Babeu. We don’t want to be so bold as to tell Pinal County citizens how to vote, however we want them to know of our good experiences with Paul. He’s a great Police Officer and has helped build positive relationships within our city’s Police Department and City Hall. We even won a national award by the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service as a model Police Agency for Relationships by Objectives. Our Police response times are quicker, crime is down and our employees are happy. In the end, our Chandler Citizens receive a very professional and positive experience by our Police Officers.”

Vice Mayor Lowell Huggins, who retired as a Sgt with the Chandler Police Department said, "Paul Babeu is a great street Cop and I will be sad to see him leave. It’s Chandler’s loss, but it will be Pinal County’s gain. They need an honest and hard working guy like Paul. I expect great things from him.”

Councilmember Bob Caccamo, who has 30 years experience in education, longtime principal of Chandler High School and active in many civic organizations said, “I know how important it is for a large agency and its staff to work together. Labor & management in Chandler is working together better than I have seen it in a long while. Paul can claim a great deal of that credit. I also consider Paul my friend and he enjoys my full support.”

Councilmember Matt Orlando, who recently retired as a full Colonel and Chief of Staff for the Arizona Air National Guard said, “Major Paul Babeu is a highly respected officer, he commanded over 700 active duty service members to secure our Arizona/Mexican border and produced the highest results of any Task Force from California to Texas. Paul is known to get results and always looks out for the welfare of his troops.” Major Babeu has 18 years of service in the Army National Guard and commanded Task Force Yuma in direct support of the US Border Patrol in Operation Jump Start.

Councilmember Jeff Weninger, who is known as the most fiscally conservative member of the Council and local business owner said, “Challenges in government at every level is to maintain services with less money and growing populations. Most people don’t know that Paul has a Master’s in Public Administration and has been an elected official for six years. He was a Councilmember himself and served four years as County Commissioner in Massachusetts. He understands budgets and will be a good steward of taxpayer money.”

Councilmember Martin Sepulveda, a Commander in the United States Navy Reserve, currently deployed in Iraq. Commander Sepulveda via e-mail wrote, “I have worked very closely with Paul and know first hand that his strong work ethic is only surpassed by his high degree of integrity. Paul is as passionate about law enforcement as he is for honest and open government. He will bring bold, yet sound, initiatives to Pinal County. He is a leader that won't be bullied; yet has the ability to respond as a statesman. Finally, Paul Babeu is a true American patriot. He has served this nation as a Major in the Arizona Army National Guard; as such he has put service to others above self. He is a man of character and honor whom I trust implicitly.”

Councilmember Kevin Hartke, who is also pastor of Trinity Christian Fellowship Church said, “Paul is not afraid to tackle tough public issues and supports his Officers when they need help. What a person does when it counts, truly defines their character. Whether you agree with Paul or not, you know where he stands and he’s always courteous and professional.”
Paul Babeu, age 39, lives in the fast growing Johnson Ranch-San Tan area of northern Pinal County.
Babeu graduated top in his class from the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy. Babeu has been awarded two (2) Life Saving Medals in the performance of his duties as a Patrol Officer. Babeu is also an Army Major, where he served a tour in Iraq and commanded Task Force Yuma at the Arizona Mexico border. TF Yuma was comprised of active duty soldiers and airmen from across America, whose numbers reached over 1,000 and was charged with direct support of the US Border Patrol to reduce illegal immigration at the Arizona/Mexico border. Babeu’s civilian education includes an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement, Bachelor’s Degree in History/Political Science and Master of Public Administration, Suma Cum Laude.
Babeu said, “I’m honored to receive the support of Mayor Dunn and Councilmembers. It’s a tribute to our positive working relationship to always remember why we serve – we share a deep passion to place the needs of others first and never compromise our values in positions of great trust. Given the opportunity to lead the Sheriff’s Office, I will make it the best in Arizona. I will benchmark future success with better training for Deputies, faster emergency response times and increased Patrol presence.”
