About Paul Babeu


Major Paul Babeu is the full-time elected Sheriff and currently serves on Reserve military status in the Arizona Army National Guard.

Leadership

  • Paul Babeu is elected Pinal County Sheriff in Arizona in 2008 in the fastest growing county in America. Babeu brought organizational improvements and new leadership, all in an effort to improve the service to those his agency serves. Babeu is bringing many changes to improve training, provide the proper equipment and technology, accountability and professionalism in law enforcement within Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Babeu is a Major in the Arizona Army National Guard, having served a tour in Iraq and sixteen months deployed in Arizona on Operation Jump Start, Southwest Border Mission.

  • Paul served as Commander of Task Force Yuma, (over 700 soldiers) which is responsible for direct support of the US Border Patrol in securing the Arizona/Mexico border.

  • The Yuma Sector, where Major Babeu commanded, achieved and maintained the highest reduction of illegal entries into the US, with a sustained yearly reduction of over 74%.

  • Paul was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by Arizona’s Adjutant General for exceptional leadership and performance. Awarded two life saving medals as a Chandler Patrol Officer.

  • Babeu graduated from the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy number one in his class. His civilian education includes an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement, Bachelor’s Degree in History/Political Science and a Master of Public Administration, Summa Cum Laude.

  • President of Chandler Law Enforcement Association, where Paul’s credited with fostering a high level of cooperation and professionalism between administration and officers, resulting in improved performance.

  • Director for the Arizona Police Association, representing over 6,000 Law Enforcement Officers in Arizona. Advocating for enhanced punishment for criminals and representing the right of Arizona Police Officers.

  • Headmaster & Executive Director of DeSisto Private Boarding School. Paul was frequently recognized for his effectiveness in personnel management and excellent fiscal abilities.

  • Served six years as an elected official (City Councilor and County Commissioner) in Massachusetts, where he balanced budgets, addressed public issues, managed departments and forged relationships with all political interests.


Education

  • Paul Babeu graduated from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in North Adams, MA.

  • Paul earned a Bachelor of Science Degree (4 year degree) in History with a Minor in Political Science.

  • Paul was a member of Alpha Chi Rho National Fraternity and served as President of the Student Government Association (SGA).

  • Paul remained at MCLA as an Admissions Counselor. He recruited students to the college throughout the Northeast by visiting colleges, universities and high schools. He assessed freshman applicants’ academic credentials and overall qualifications. Paul also advised numerous clubs/organizations while working for his Alma Mater.

  • A strong supporter and advocate for public higher education, Paul encourages self development for young adults and working professionals. Paul is a first generation college graduate, who also earned an associates degree in Law Enforcement Technology from Rio Salado Community College.

  • Master in Public Administration from American International College, located in Springfield, MA.

  • Paul graduated at the very top of his class at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy in Phoenix.


Headmaster & Executive Director of DeSisto School

  • Paul not only received formal management training with his Master of Public Administration Degree from American International College, located in Springfield, MA. He graduated Suma Cum Laude (highest honors) while attending night school and balancing the responsibilities as Headmaster and Executive Director of DeSisto Private Boarding School, located in Stockbridge, MA.

  • A residential therapeutic boarding school for gifted and emotionally troubled teenagers, the school was unique in purpose. Annual tuition exceeded $65k per year and maintained a full time staff and faculty of 80 for an equal number of students. All students lived on campus with a majority of the staff. The campus was set on over 300 beautiful acres, comprised of a gilded age mansion as the center with numerous buildings, dorms, school and separate housing for staff.

  • Babeu spent three years with DeSisto School and reported to the School’s founder A. Michael DeSisto and Board of Directors. Paul was frequently recognized for his effectiveness in personnel management and excellent fiscal abilities. Renovations to the schools buildings, improvement in technology, fundraising and marketing of the school are the chief accomplishments during his tenure.

  • Paul was also responsible for raising money for the school and raised over $500k in two years. Several years after Paul left DeSisto School for other professional opportunities, Michael DeSisto died from kidney failure, following a transplant. As with most private schools closely linked with a founder, the school closed within one year after Michael’s unexpected death.
